Sunday and Monday, 21-22 August 2022
On Sunday, we attended worship service at Oak Hills Baptist Church here in Sioux Falls. We found the message to be meaningful, the congregation friendly and the pastoral team approachable and welcoming. It is our goal this trip to try and attend a local worship service each Sunday if possible.
After church Frieda and I had lunch at a place called Bread and Sandwich Circus in downtown Sioux Falls. It was simply amazing! Now, did I get some pictures? Of course not! Doh! But I did manage to get a selfie as we approached the restaurant:
We wrapped up Sunday with a car wash which we desperately needed. I was so proud of how good 10-year old “Big Red” looked that I snapped the following:
This morning we decided to have a late brunch in downtown Sioux Falls at the retro Phillips Avenue Diner. We each had their corned beef hash and eggs which was absolutely delicious!
Downtown Sioux Falls features numerous sculptures including this colorful chameleon:
This afternoon we went on a little drive outside the city to see what it looks like. About 20 minutes west in a small town called Garretson is Devil’s Gulch where a footbridge marks the spot where, in 1876, the outlaw Jesse James coaxed his horse to jump the 20-foot chasm in order to avoid the posse that was close behind.
After this short visit, we traveled another 5 minutes or so into Minnesota. But since we didn’t have Ollie in tow, we won’t count it as a state added to Olivers’s Travels.
For fun, we then headed south to the road that runs along the Minnesota and Iowa border to the tri-state marker where it intersects South Dakota. That provided an opportunity for this fun picture. Frieda has her right foot in Minnesota and left foot in Iowa. I have my left foot in Iowa and right foot in South Dakota. Fun!
I close out today’s post with this Public Service Announcement this this is NOT drinking water.
Scott, way too funny, about the water. I have been catching up with your posts and pictures this morning. Your posts are always enjoyable.
