West Quest Part Deux begins today! Thank you to everyone who helped suggest a name for this second try at our Summer ‘22 Cross Country that we cut short due to the death of a dear friend and neighbor, Judy Rose.
Frieda and I spent the last three weeks staying with Wayne Rose to assist him during this difficult time. Our home is currently rented out to folks who are building next door, so it was a blessing that Wayne could put us up as we provided company for him. Frieda fixed him three squares a day (she’s amazing!) and he even might have put on a few pounds. Other than the lingering sadness we all had over Judy’s passing, we had a wonderful visit with Wayne.
I thought it might be fun and meaningful to take something on this trip that would appear regularly in photos and then be returned to Wayne once we get back home. Wayne and I settled on this wooden ornament he received from friends and missionaries who live in Taiwan.
Frieda, Maddie, Skipper and I departed at around 8:30 am to head northwest as far as we could get toward tomorrow’s destination of Ames, Iowa. Why you ask? That’s for tomorrow’s post.
About 35 miles west of our home in Harriman in a town called Crossville, a Buc-ee’s recently opened. For the uninitiated, it’s a Texas chain that’s expanding rapidly featuring hundreds of gas pumps that you are intended to park at as well, making it very convenient for folks who are towing. The other draw is their food, clean restrooms, and for local folks, great pay and benefits. I also like their Beaver Fuel — 100% gasoline — that the truck much prefers.
After traveling through Kentucky and into Illinois, we ended up at Kamper Kompanion RV Park in Litchfield as it was a bit more than halfway to Ames and it gets good ratings. To our delight, the pull through site was perfectly level, meaning all we had to do was to hook up electric, water and sewer, and of course, Starlink. We’ve definitely found that if it’s just a quick overnight, not unhitching makes for an easier and quicker setup and breakdown, thus saving a lot of time.
That’s it for today. See you tomorrow and thanks for following Oliver’s Travels!
Make sure you go to Hickory Park Restaurant in Ames!! Was our favorite place to eat while we attended ISU. Also, take a drive through the campus, it's very beautiful!
Good for you.
