Being an Engrish major, it always drives me nuts when I make a spelling mistake as I did with Tex Treck [sic] in yesterday’s email.
Today we traveled just under 350 miles from White ‘Tale’ Ranch in De Kalb, Texas to Austonia RV Resort in Del Valle, Texas just east of Austin. This gets us in place for a nasty, and probably time-consuming, Kleen Tank job tomorrow in New Braunfels about an hour away. If you are new to RVing, or thinking of one, please know that you should NEVER EVER leave your black tank valve open. And for sure do NOT leave it open for several YEARS. We’re not exactly sure what to expect tomorrow but the desperate customer has a completely full — as in solidly full and won’t drain — black tank along with the obviously now-clogged toilet.
Last night was quiet and peaceful at the White ‘Tale’ Ranch. Temps were in the mid-60s, so we just had to fun the overhead fan and crack the windows to be very comfortable.
The ranch consists of 300 acres and Jay and Peggy White have several different farm animals including donkeys, hogs, chickens and Guinea hens.
Overall, a wonderful place to boondock for the night.
By the way, our new Honda EU3200i generator was put to use this morning. We absolutely love our Moccamaster Glass Carafe Coffee Brewer but have now learned that it pulls about 2500 watts during the brewing cycle. This proves to be too much most of the time for our Ollie when relying on less than fully topped off lithium batteries and no sun for a solar boost. One quick pull on the generator starting handle and we were up and running with enough power to get the coffee made. And fortunately, Jay and Peggy had said the use of a generator was welcome on their property. Here’s us with Peggy just before we left:
A little ways down the road, we grabbed gas and breakfast at the Royce City Buc-ee’s.
And Skipper left his mark in the dog walk area…
In case you’re wondering if it’s true that lots of folks are moving the Texas, trust us, it’s true. The amount of highway, business, home and apartment construction we saw today was staggering.
It’s always amusing to see a funny-sounding town name:
The speed limit on most of the highways today was 80 mph and we’re pretty sure most Texans take that as an advisory. We mostly stayed in the middle lane so that we were neither blocking the passing lane on the left or dealing with merging on the right. This meant, though, that for most of the day we had folks overtaking us by 20+ mph on both sides. It was a bit nerve wracking.
The Austonia RV Resort office is an 1950s-era RV converted to that purpose.
Very cool.
And here we are, settled for the night:
That’s it for Tex Trek ‘23 - Day 3!
