Scott, what a wonderful story, so beautifully written. Sorry for your loss. You painted a picture of farm life that was very familiar to this former farm girl from Ohio. I will never forget that you arranged a carrier tour for this American girl, it was certainly a special highlight for Jochen as well. Keep traveling and keep writing, you have a special talent. Greetings from a mutual friend, Mairi Marquart. We just returned from Croatia , we do RV tours together a few times a year.

Thanks for sharing are story again, you did a wonderful job writing it. Life is different here without Ralph, I am very fortunate to have the children close by. Enjoy the fall, the leaves here are starting to turn color. Your friend from Iowa. Rita

This was a great and well written story, but mostly I'm sorry for your loss.

With respect to your amazement about the high technology used in farming today, a former colleague was a product manager for a startup that hit it big using data science, weather predictions and GPS - Climate Corp (sold to Monsanto). An article about them in the New Yorker is here: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2013/11/11/climate-by-numbers?utm_source=tny&utm_campaign=generalsocial&utm_medium=tumblr
