This morning we departed Ravenna, Ohio for Gettysburg, Pennsylvania after a brief overnight at West Branch State Park. The park appeared to be quite lovely with lots of families settled in for the Independence Day week, but we didn’t explore beyond our site because we didn’t want to unhitch the truck for what was just a quick stop.
Today’s drive was almost entirely spent on the Ohio Turnpike and then on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Observation: Ohio is doing it right. Pennsylvania is not. There is a huge quality difference between the service areas, road surface and overall maintenance. The fact that I had to sell a kidney to afford the tolls on both of these roads didn’t seem so bad given the quality of the Ohio Turnpike. But I came to regret giving up my old friend once we got into Pennsylvania.
Because we are now in Pennsylvania, we get to add another state to the Oliver’s Travels state map.
While arrival at our camp site was uneventful, unhitching and setup was not. We experienced one of those times when everything that can go wrong did go wrong. Without boring you with details, by the time we got everything sorted out, all we wanted to do was to go get gas for the truck, food for our bellies, adult beverages for our nerves and then call it a night. We also said a prayer for the kindness of strangers who stepped in to help. There are many good people in this world.
We’re here for a week now to visit with family and friends, then the adventure continues as we head west again, this time all the way to Washington, Oregon and California before heading back east again for home via the southern U.S. There will be good days and bad days as the Oliver’s Travels adventure continues. Onward!
Thank you Karen. And thanks for following Oliver's Travels!
Enjoy PA….my home state!❤️
