Hello Oliver’s Travels fans!
A lot has happened in our lives since we said goodbye to our 2022 Oliver Legacy Elite II travel trailer and it’s time to catch you up.
About two months ago, I was offered a chance to go back to work full time working at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge. It’s an amazing opportunity serving in a national security role for our nation and frankly, one I couldn’t pass up. That said, after being semi-retired since July of 2021, and being accustomed to a LOT of free time, Frieda and I decided it would only be worthwhile if we could exchange the reduced time I’ll have most weeks and trade it into opportunities to finally take some overseas trips we always dreamed of. We also wanted to use the extra resources to help and serve others, perhaps by doing some mission trips through our church.
So here’s what we have planned for the balance of this year:
Early July: Church mission trip to Albania where we will assist the pastor of a Kosovo-based church with a retreat south of Durrës. This will mark the first time Frieda and I have been back to Europe since we left Germany in March 2000 after three years being stationed in Stuttgart.
Late July: Trip to Hawaii to visit our son Brian and his family. Brian recently transferred to Pearl Harbor for a two-year shore assignment after completing his department head tour on USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN-735) in Silverdale, Washington.
Mid-October: Sightseeing trip to Portugal and Spain to relax and unwind and take in a part of Europe neither of us has been to before.
So what does this mean for Oliver’s Travels? I think it means I keep writing and sharing fun updates about what we’re seeing and doing.
We'll keep you posted on our upcoming adventures.
So glad you are back on the road. And I can’t wait to read about your travels.
Enjoy the adventures. I am particularly excited to read about your mission trip. Something Dave and I are interested in doing in the near future
